Maxim expands its family of pin-compatible downconverting SiGe mixers with a new device targeting the 1500MHz market.
Dual SiGe mixer has superior linearity, noise performance, and integration.
SUNNYVALE, CA—June 3, 2010—Maxim Integrated Products (NASDAQ: MXIM) introduces the MAX19994A, a fully integrated, 1200MHz to 2000MHz, dual downconverting mixer with an on-chip LO switch, buffer, and splitter. Designed using Maxim's proprietary monolithic SiGe BiCMOS process, this device delivers an unparalleled combination of linearity, noise performance, and component integration. A single IC provides two independent downconversion channels, each with a +25dBm (typ) IIP3, 8.4dB (typ) conversion gain, and 9.8dB (typ) noise figure. Additionally, the MAX19994A offers an industry-best 2LO-2RF spurious rejection of 68dBc for an RF level of -10dBm, and 63dBc for a level of -5dBm. This mixer is designed specifically for 2.5/3G/4G wireless-infrastructure applications in which high linearity and a low noise figure are critical for enhanced receiver sensitivity and blocker immunity. The MAX19994A supports high-side LO injection architectures for 1200MHz to 1700MHz WCDMA/LTE base stations; it can also be configured for 1700MHz to 2000MHz GSM/EDGE, WCDMA/LTE, TD-SCDMA, and cdma2000® low-side injection architectures.
As a complete SiGe downconverter, the MAX19994A integrates two state-of-the-art mixer cores; four amplifiers; three baluns; an LO switch, buffer, and splitter; and dozens of discrete components. The device's 8.4dB conversion gain enables the elimination of a complete IF amplifier stage within the receiver lineup. The MAX19994A's outstanding 2LO-2RF and 2RF-2LO performance can also ease the filtering requirements of close-in harmonics, thus leading to simpler and more cost-effective filter designs. Through this combination of integration and performance, the device reduces mixer solution size by a factor of 2x and the discrete part count by 45%.
The MAX19994A is packaged in a compact, 6mm x 6mm, 36-pin TQFN that is pin compatible with the MAX9985/MAX9995/MAX19985A/MAX19993*/MAX19995/MAX19995A series of 700MHz to 2200MHz dual mixers, and pin similar to the MAX19997A/MAX19999 series of 1850MHz to 4000MHz dual mixers. This complete family of downconverters is ideal for applications in which a common PCB layout is used for multiple frequency bands. Prices start at $9.96 (1000-up, FOB USA).
